About the Client
Our client is a Chartered Accounting and advisory firm based in New Zealand, growing their existing offshore team to support their accounting function. They provide accounting, taxation, and business advisory services to a broad range of clients, helping them stay compliant while making informed financial decisions. This role exists to support the timely and accurate delivery of core accounting and tax compliance work across the practice.
The Role
As an Intermediate Accountant, you’ll support the preparation of financial statements, tax returns, payroll, and compliance-related tasks for New Zealand clients. You’ll work closely with senior accountants and managers to ensure deadlines are met and client deliverables are completed accurately and efficiently. This role is suited for someone who enjoys structured accounting work, communicates well, and thrives in a collaborative team environment.
What You'll Do
Perform bookkeeping tasks including bank reconciliations, fixed asset management, and accounts payable/receivable processing
Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payroll for clients
Prepare GST reports and returns for New Zealand clients
Assist in preparing annual financial statements, taxation summaries, and related compliance documents
Prepare Individual, Trust, Partnership, and Company tax returns
Coordinate with clients to gather required documentation and maintain updated records
Support senior accountants and managers with additional accounting and administrative tasks as needed
What We're Looking For
Tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related field
At least 2 years of experience within a New Zealand accounting firm environment
Strong understanding of New Zealand accounting and taxation principles
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
High level of attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
Experience using Xero and/or MYOB
Exposure to payroll processing and compliance work
Experience working with multiple client entities and industries
