About the Client
Our client is an accounting firm based in New Zealand, growing their existing offshore team to support their accounting function. They provide accounting, taxation, and compliance services to a diverse portfolio of clients, helping businesses maintain accurate financial records and meet their regulatory obligations. This role exists to support the delivery of high-quality accounting work while contributing to the smooth operation of the firm's client service function.
The Role
As an Intermediate Accountant, you'll be responsible for preparing financial statements, tax returns, GST returns, and other compliance-related deliverables across a range of client entities. You'll work closely with senior accountants and management, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with client expectations. This role is ideal for someone looking to further develop their public practice experience within a collaborative and supportive team environment.
What You'll Do
Perform bookkeeping tasks, including bank reconciliations, fixed asset management, and accounts payable and receivable processing
Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payroll
Prepare GST returns and related compliance reporting
Assist in preparing annual financial statements, annual reports, resolutions, and taxation summaries
Prepare Individual, Trust, Partnership, and Company tax returns
Maintain and update client records while coordinating information requests and follow-ups
Support Senior Accountants, Managers, and Directors with accounting and compliance-related tasks
Contribute to the timely completion of client deliverables and reporting requirements
What We're Looking For
Tertiary qualification in Accounting
At least 2 years of accounting experience within a public practice or accounting firm environment
Strong understanding of accounting and taxation principles
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality work
Strong organizational and time management skills
A collaborative mindset and willingness to support team success
Nice to Have
Experience using Xero and/or MYOB
Exposure to New Zealand accounting and tax compliance requirements
Experience handling multiple client entities simultaneously
Familiarity with payroll processing and compliance reporting
