About the Client
Our client is a Chartered Accounting and Advisory firm based in New Zealand, growing their existing offshore team to support their senior accounting function. They provide accounting, tax, compliance, and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of businesses and individuals, helping clients navigate financial obligations with confidence. This role exists to strengthen their back-office operations by delivering high-quality compliance work and ensuring client assignments are completed accurately and efficiently.
The Role
As a Senior Accountant, you'll take ownership of year-end accounting and compliance work across a portfolio of New Zealand clients. Working as part of the offshore team, you'll prepare financial statements and tax returns to a review-ready standard while independently managing assignments from start to finish. Success in this role comes from delivering technically accurate work, proactively managing deadlines, and contributing to the smooth delivery of client services.
What You'll Do
Prepare year-end financial statements and income tax returns across a diverse client portfolio
Manage compliance work for New Zealand companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals
Ensure GST, income tax, and provisional tax obligations are completed accurately and in accordance with IRD requirements
Independently manage jobs from commencement through to review stage
Follow internal workflows and proactively monitor job progress and deadlines
Identify, investigate, and escalate accounting or compliance issues where appropriate
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely and efficient delivery of client work
Maintain high standards of accuracy, completeness, and professional documentation throughout all assignments
What We're Looking For
Strong experience preparing financial statements and tax returns for New Zealand entities
Proven experience working with companies, trusts, partnerships, and individual tax returns
Proficiency in Xero Accounting Software and Xero Workpapers
Solid understanding of New Zealand taxation and IRD compliance requirements, including GST, income tax, and provisional tax
Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
Strong technical accounting knowledge and analytical skills
High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Excellent time management and deadline management skills
Nice to Have
Experience working within a New Zealand Chartered Accounting or Business Advisory firm
Exposure to reviewing junior accountants' work
Experience supporting process improvements and workflow efficiencies
Familiarity with a broad range of New Zealand client industries and entity structures
