We exist to free our clients' time so they can focus on what they do best — growing their business. We deliver smart, efficient solutions that liberate teams from the everyday admin, and we hold ourselves to the same standard. Time is the ultimate currency, and we treat it like it.
About the Client
Our client is a Chartered Accounting and Advisory firm based in New Zealand, growing their existing offshore team to support their accounting function. They help Kiwi business owners build stronger businesses by delivering high-quality accounting, tax compliance, and advisory services. This role exists to produce accurate, review-ready compliance work that enables the onshore accounting team to focus on client advice and strategic business support.
The Role
As an Accountant, you'll play a key role within the offshore accounting pod, preparing high-quality compliance work across a diverse portfolio of New Zealand clients. You'll work closely with Senior Accountants and Accounting Managers to produce review-ready financial information, maintain compliance standards, and contribute to efficient workflow delivery. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys structured accounting work, values continuous learning, and wants to build deeper expertise in New Zealand accounting and tax compliance.
What You'll Do
Compliance Production
Prepare GST returns accurately and on time for designated clients, including supporting reconciliations and GST workpapers.
Maintain client ledgers accurately: bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, coding integrity, journals, and preparation to trial balance.
Prepare interim and annual accounts/workpapers to a review-ready standard (all schedules, reconciliations, fixed asset support, accruals/prepayments, etc.).
Support income tax return preparation by compiling supporting schedules and required information (companies, individuals, trusts, partnerships) as directed by the Senior Accountant.
Maintain the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and entering financial transactions.
Work within RightWay templates and checklists so files can be reviewed quickly and consistently.
Pod Support & Communication
Escalate issues early: missing data, unclear treatment, time budget risk, or technical uncertainty.
Be comfortable asking for help when needed and providing a clear summary of what’s been done and where you’re stuck.
Draft concise queries for clients (where requested) and assist with follow-ups through approved channels and templates.
Maintain clear notes for the reviewer: assumptions, judgement calls, items to confirm, and next steps.
Internal Processes, Controls, and Information Security
Follow client's workflows, naming conventions, workpaper standards, and quality checklists.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date timesheets and job/time records.
Protect confidentiality and comply with security requirements (client data handling, access control, secure storage, approved tools only).
Participate in team meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Personal and Professional Development
Take active ownership of learning NZ compliance work (GST, financial statements preparation, workpaper standards, and basic NZ tax concepts as relevant to the role).
Actively apply feedback from Seniors/Managers and show month-on-month improvement.
Build efficiency: learn recurring client patterns, template use, and shortcuts that improve turnaround without reducing quality.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in accountancy, Accounting Technology, or equivalent
2+ years’ experience in public practice, shared services, or outsourcing/BPO accounting
Experience with cloud accounting software (Xero preferred) and Excel (intermediate)
Exposure to NZ accounting or tax compliance
Willingness to work required NZ business-hour overlap as agreed (for pod collaboration and handovers)
Strong accounting fundamentals: reconciliations, trial balance prep, financial statement basics
High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Able to work at pace while maintaining quality (production mindset)
Motivated to learn and contribute; coachable and receptive to feedback
Comfortable escalating early and asking questions when unsure
Clear written communication (internal; and some external/client communication where required)
Reliable time management; can work to deadlines and time budgets
Team-oriented; works effectively in a remote/offshore collaboration model with NZ teams
