About the Client
Our client is an FMCG distribution business based in New Zealand, supplying trusted international brands across the Pacific Islands. They are looking to build their offshore team to support their accounting function, with a focus on maintaining strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and effective day-to-day financial management. This role exists to provide the financial oversight and reporting needed to support sound business decisions across the organization.
The Role
As an Accounting Manager, you'll take ownership of key financial management activities, including cashflow, debtors and collections, month-end reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and statutory compliance. You'll work closely with the Managing Director and wider leadership team to provide clear financial insights, identify risks early, and support informed business decisions. Success in this role means maintaining strong financial controls, delivering accurate reporting on time, and proactively managing the company's financial position.
What You'll Do
Own weekly cashflow reporting, bank reconciliations, and daily cash position monitoring
Manage debtors and collections, monitor debtor days, and proactively follow up on overdue accounts
Lead the month-end close process and deliver accurate P&L reporting within agreed deadlines
Prepare and post month-end journals, accruals, reconciliations, and fixed asset entries
Review AP and AR sub-ledgers to ensure financial data is complete and accurate
Prepare monthly management reports, KPI updates, and cost-centre variance analysis
Own the annual budgeting process and prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cashflow forecasts
Monitor capital expenditure and flag potential budget variances or overspends
Coordinate with external accountants on year-end accounts, tax returns, and complex compliance matters
Provide guidance and oversight to the Admin/Finance Support function, including reviewing and approving payment runs
Support the Managing Director and leadership team with financial analysis, reporting, and decision-making
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
More than 3 years of experience in a senior accounting or financial management role
Strong experience in cashflow reporting, debtor management, and collections
Strong knowledge of month-end close, reconciliations, and fixed asset accounting
Experience owning budgeting and forecasting cycles
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency in Xero or similar accounting systems
Strong analytical and mathematical skills with a sound understanding of accounting principles
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and communicate proactively with senior stakeholders
Nice to Have
CA or CPA qualification, or currently working towards one
Experience in an NZ or Australian business environment
Experience within manufacturing, FMCG, distribution, or a similar industry
Experience using Unleashed inventory software
Familiarity with business intelligence reporting and financial analysis
Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidations
Experience overseeing a transactional finance or administrative support function
Why This Role
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad and commercially important accounting function within an established New Zealand FMCG distributor with a strong presence across the Pacific Islands. You'll work closely with senior leadership, have meaningful influence over financial decision-making, and play a key role in strengthening the company's financial visibility and controls as the offshore team grows.
