We usually respond within three days
About The Back Room
We exist to free our clients' time so they can focus on what they do best — growing their business. We deliver smart, efficient solutions that liberate teams from the everyday admin, and we hold ourselves to the same standard. Time is the ultimate currency, and we treat it like it.
About the Client
Our client is a public/chartered accounting firm based in New Zealand, growing their existing offshore team to support their bookkeeping function. They work with a diverse portfolio of clients across a range of industries, providing an opportunity to gain broad exposure to different businesses and accounting requirements. This role exists to provide accurate day-to-day bookkeeping support while helping the onshore accounting team maintain reliable financial records and reporting
The Role
As a Bookkeeper, you'll manage day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients, with a strong focus on transaction processing, reconciliations, and accounts payable and receivable. You'll also progressively take on month-end journals and management accounts, giving you the opportunity to develop beyond transactional bookkeeping into more strategic accounting work.
What You'll Do
Process day-to-day transactions and maintain accurate records in Xero for a portfolio of clients across a range of industries
Perform monthly bank, credit card, and payment gateway reconciliations for e-commerce clients (Shopify Payments, PayPal, Windcave, Afterpay), matching fees, refunds, chargebacks, and holds against bank deposits
Investigate and resolve discrepancies between gateway reports, POS/e-commerce platforms, and the general ledger
Maintain accounts payable and receivable, and assist with GST-ready reporting
Prepare month-end journals — accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and other adjusting entries
Assist in preparing management accounts and reporting packs for client review
Support the onshore accounting team with analysis and ad hoc reporting as the role grows
Liaise with the onshore accounting team on queries and process improvements
What We're Looking For
2–3 years' bookkeeping experience, with solid hands-on Xero skills (Xero certification a plus)
Experience reconciling e-commerce payment gateways — Shopify, PayPal, Windcave, and/or Afterpay preferred, but this is one skill among several we're looking for
Exposure to month-end close, journals, or management accounts, or a clear interest in growing into this work
Comfortable working with multiple entities/clients and switching between them accurately
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to tracking down discrepancies
Good written English and clear communication for reporting issues to the onshore team
Experience with New Zealand clients (GST/tax coding conventions) is an advantage
Why This Role
This is more than a transactional bookkeeping role. You'll work across a diverse client portfolio while building your expertise in Xero, complex reconciliations, month-end accounting, and management reporting. With a genuine pathway toward more strategic accounting work, it's a strong opportunity for a bookkeeper looking to broaden their skill set and progress their career.
This role is open to Philippine citizens currently based in the Philippines.
